Wah Mei School is the first Chinese American bilingual school to be established in San Francisco. Since our first class in 1974, our preschool program successfully promotes multiculturalism in developmental activities that emphasize both learning and playing for our participants. About the role
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Accounting Specialist/Senior Accountant to join our
finance team. This position plays a critical role in supporting the organization's financial operations,
including general accounting, data analysis, payroll, grant reporting, and audit preparation.
This role will work closely under the guidance of the Director of Finance, and is responsible for ensuring
accurate financial record-keeping, supporting internal and external audits, and contributing to the organization's financial integrity.
What you'll do
- Full-cycle A/P and A/R
- Full-cycle payrolls
- Manages monthly corporate credit card expense reports
- Filing and maintaining e-paperwork
- Budgets and subcontractor reporting
- Assist with the month closing procedures
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations
- maintains general ledger and journal entries
- Retirement, HSA, and other fundings
- Submit and review monthly reports for grants
- Review data, run reports, and input updates in QBO
- Support colleagues as necessary
- Year-end reports and miscellaneous finance projects/reports as assigned and needed
- Handling audit sampling package for external & internal audits
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field and 5+ years of relevant experience
OR
- Associate’s degree in Accounting or related field with 10+ years of progressively responsible experience
- At least 5+ years of nonprofit accounting experience strongly preferred
Technical Skills
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (Google Sheet, pivot tables, VLOOKUP, formulas)
- Experience with QBO
- Familiarity with Rippling payroll and Bill.com for expense reporting is a plus.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Outlook

- Ability to work independently and proactively
- Experience with nonprofit and government contract compliance is a plus.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
